Dr. Severita Sanchez Biography

 

Dr. Severita Sanchez is a native Laredoan who attended Ursuline Academy, earned her high school diploma from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1973 (the only co-ed class). She is deeply committed to protect children from harm and create a healthy and whimsical childhood through education and community involvement. She believes in the value of serving the community where she lives. Following a successful and extensive career focusing on public education from teacher aide to superintendent of schools, Dr. Sanchez has continuously formed personal and specific goals to reach student success. In October of 2016, Dr. Sanchez was selected to serve as Executive Director of the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) of Laredo-Webb County Executive Director. Prior to joining CAC, Sanchez was the Superintendent of Schools at the Webb Consolidated Independent School District for 6 years, Webb CISD which serves the communities of Bruni, Aguilares, Mirando City, and Oilton.

She earned several college degrees including an undergraduate degree from Laredo Junior College, two master’s degrees one from Laredo State University and Texas A&I University in Kingsville, and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University in College Station on a full-ride scholarship provided by Laredo ISD titled GED to Ph.D. Dr. Sanchez has numerous educational certifications.  Sanchez began her educational career as a teacher aide at Santo Niño Elementary School, secretary to the director of special education, earned her teaching degree then proceeded to teach at Martin High School. In essence she has taught from pre-kindergarten to doctoral studies. She has served as teacher for children in special education, special education counselor, regular education counselor, assistant principal, principal at elementary, middle and high school principal, and interim superintendent at United Independent School District and Superintendent of Webb CISD. Dr.  Sanchez taught Citizenship classes and GED at Laredo Junior College.  Most recently, she taught doctoral classes at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi.

In addition, she helps manage the family businesses, La Guajolota Ranch and Fierro Cattle Ranch, both in Duval County.  Dr. Sanchez is proud of her son Fred Gutierrez, a graduate of United ISD, and with Bachelors and master’s from Texas A&M International University (TAMIU). He is presently employed as Chief Investigator with the District Attorney’s office for Webb and Zapata Counties. She merits her career and personal success to God and her husband of over 35 years, Fernando A. Sanchez. Mr. Fernando A. Sanchez is a retired public-school administrator and avid rancher. Dr. Sanchez is grateful to both her son and husband for their unconditional love and support.
